Position description

The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of California, Davis invites applications for a pool of qualified Junior Specialists in Public Health, Public Policy, and Advocacy. Screening of applicants is ongoing and will continue as needed. The number of positions varies each year, depending on the trainee openings in the LEND Training Program.

This position will be involved in the Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (LEND) LEND Training Program in Autism and other Neurodevelopmental Disorders (NDD). The LEND program focuses on increasing the knowledge and skills of persons in clinical and applied health sciences, Public Health and Public Policy, Education, and also family members of persons with autism or other neurodevelopmental disorders, and self- advocates so that they will be able to serve Northern California children with autism or other neurodevelopmental disorders and their families in communities across our region. LEND focuses on several areas of knowledge and skill: developing family focused care, providing evidence based care, providing interdisciplinary care, understanding systems of care in communities, contributing to research in NDD, developing leadership and advocacy skills. The goal of the LEND training program is to enhance the quality of life and the outcomes of children with autism and other neurodevelopmental disorders by training health care deliverers, educators, family members, and others in the public care sector in best practice and family focused care in their own communities.

Required qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in education or in a health care field related to neurodevelopmental disorders.

Preferred:
Candidates who wish to further develop their leadership and advocacy skills in the area of Neurodevelopmental Disorders, who also have considerable experience, interest, and accomplishment related to work in neurodevelopmental disorders in order to support and advocate for families and persons with NDDs in Northern California.

The training program involves classes at the UCDMC and clinical and community activities as well as research activities and leadership training. These positions are part-time and involve approximately 500 hours over the course of the year.

Salary Range: Step I - $37,548 based on 100%full time-employment.
This position will open on September 27, with an initial review date of October 11, 2016-. The position will close on November 15, 2016. The number of positions varies each year, depending on the needs of the department. As openings occur, appointments are made contingent upon availability of funding.

Short term, seasonal appointment based on the needs of the research project.
