Position description

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing at UC Davis was established in March 2009 through a $100 million commitment from the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, the nation's largest grant for nursing education. Our vision is to advance health and ignite leadership through innovative education, transformative research and bold system change.

Our research is the engine that drives new solutions that put individuals and families at the center of care to improve health care systems and design policies to assure care is effective, efficient and responsive. The diverse interests and expertise of School of Nursing faculty, coupled with robust collaborations with faculty across UC Davis and beyond, catalyze cutting-edge research that includes improving nursing home and palliative care, enhancing chronic-disease management and care coordination, advancing health through enabling technology, and increasing quality of life and optimizing symptom management and function. All of these activities are undertaken with a particular attention to the needs of aging, rural and underserved communities. We aim to build capacity in innovative models of care, life-course population health and health services research.

The Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing is engaged in robust collaborations, starting with sponsoring the Nursing Science and Health-Care Leadership Graduate Group, an interprofessional team of 55 faculty members from disciplines including nursing, medicine, health informatics, nutrition, biostatistics, pharmacy, sociology and public health. The graduate group is responsible for the delivery of academic programs of the School of Nursing, including the doctoral and master’s-degree programs for nursing leadership, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and the new Master’s Entry Program in Nursing.

Active UC Davis-based research partners include the Clinical and Translational Science Center (CTSC), the Latino Aging Research Resource Center (one of seven RCMARS in the U.S.), the Alzheimer’s Disease Center, the Center for Health and Technology, the Center for Innovative Technology Research for the Improvement of Society, and the Shaping Healthy Choices program.

UC Davis is one of the nation’s top public research universities and is part of the world’s preeminent public university system. UC Davis Health System is an academic health center located on a modern, 140-acre campus in Sacramento, California. The Sacramento campus is home to the School of Nursing, School of Medicine, medical center, a fully accredited children’s hospital, a NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center, a level-I trauma center and burn unit, and a full range of outpatient services. The campus also includes an award-winning education center and library, the Center for Health and Technology, the NIH-funded Clinical Translational Science Center, the Center for Reducing Health Disparities, and dozens of other clinical, educational and research centers.
