Position description

The Department of Neurology at the University of California, Davis invites applications for a qualified Junior Specialist. This position will be involved in interdisciplinary studies focusing on questions in the neurosciences at the Alzheimer’s Disease Center (ADC) in Sacramento, CA.

The position will support pharmaceutical industry Phase III clinical trials for experimental therapies and assist in subject recruitment and data collection from individuals suffering from Alzheimer’s disease in the community or longitudinal cohort. S/he will be exposed to patients with prodromal to mild Alzheimer’s disease and will work closely with study neurologists and research investigators.

General responsibilities include providing support to research staff to enroll, track and follow research study patients. S/he will assist with follow up of patient research study appointments to include scheduling, consenting, prescreening patients to clinical trials studies, and perform questionnaires in person or by phone. The candidate will also extract medical information from patient’s electronic medical chart, enter data into on-line databases, and organize study documents. S/he will assist with the maintenance of regulatory documents and correspondence as well as assist with IRB and SAE paperwork. Other responsibilities include attending teleconferences, study monitoring visits, audits, etc.

The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal, communication and decision-making skills; as well as the ability to work well independently and as part of a team. The candidate is expected to contribute to the dynamic academic environment at the ADC.

The position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Science, preferably neuroscience, human development, or psychology. Qualified candidates are required to be organized, motivated, attentive to detail and punctual. The ability to interact with diverse groups of people including older adult patients, staff, physicians, nurses, research coordinators, etc. is required.

Preferred qualifications include experience working in clinical trials; experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, EMR; ability to learn new software applications to support research studies; CITI human subjects training; project management for coordinating aspects of research studies; relevant clinical experience such as taking vitals and reviewing charts; experience in administration of brief cognitive tests such as MMSE; and, data processing.

SALARY RANGE: Step I - $36,984 [100% annual] or Step II - $39,444 [100% annual]), commensurate with qualifications and experience. Appointments are made contingent upon availability of funding.

The term of appointment is short term, based on the needs of the research projects. Appointments may be made up to 100%.
