Assistant Specialist Position in Molecular Plant Biology
Department of Plant Science at the University of California, Davis
Title: Assistant Position in Plant Molecular Biology

Responsibilities:
The Department of Plant Sciences is recruiting for an Assistant Specialist with a background in the development, management and testing of transgenic fruit trees to join our team starting immediately. General responsibilities will include following experimental protocols designed by a research team consisting of faculty, graduate students and staff. The candidate will be expected to collect and analyze data, and make substantive scientific, scholarly, and intellectual contributions by evaluating the general methodological approaches being used, and to recommend alternative approaches where appropriate. The candidate will also be expected to independently review the scientific literature in this area in order to evaluate the scientific validity of the data analysis method being used and any model which may be proposed based on these data. The main experiment involves management of a transgenic pipeline that includes citrus, grapevine and walnut trees. The pipeline initiates from the development of the initial transgenic plant lines, through their multiplication and management of their evaluation and testing in the greenhouse and field. The candidate must have experience in transgenic plant biology, molecular and biochemical techniques, microbiology, plant propagation including budding and grafting techniques, as well as strong math and data organizing, processing, and analytical skills. This position will require laboratory, greenhouse and field work including some field trips with overnight stay off campus.
Qualifications:
B.S. degree in Plant Sciences, Biology, or closely related field and 1-3 years of relevant post-baccalaureate experience. Must have a valid California driver license and be able to take field trips that will require overnight stays.
Term of Appointment: Part to full-time through 9/30/17. This position may be extended for up to 2 years depending on the availability of funding.
Salary: $42,780/yr
