Position description

The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of California, Davis invites applications for a qualified Junior Specialist.

This position will be involved in interdisciplinary studies focusing on questions in neuroscience. The UC Davis Imaging Research Center is seeking applications for a full-time technical support provider at the MRI Facility for Integrative Neuroscience in Davis, California. This facility houses a new 3-Tesla magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner that is used for studying neural structure and function in research subjects. The individual in this position will operate the MRI scanner and ancillary equipment to assist researchers to obtain high-quality research data, and will ensure the safety of researchers and subjects who work in the facility. Extensive training will be provided. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal, communication, and decision-making skills; as well as the ability to work well independently and as part of a team. Hazard warning: the individual in this position must be able to work in a high magnetic field. This position is not appropriate for people with metallic medical implants, embedded shrapnel, or who may have other medical conditions that can cause further health complications.

Duties include:
•Operate or assist researchers in operating the MRI scanner
•Ensure that safety guidelines are observed at all times
•Provide support for the equipment that monitors subjects who are being scanned
•Troubleshoot problems or refer them to more experienced technical support staff
•Run daily quality assurance measurements on the scanner

•Bachelor degree in biological science or a related field required
•Some experience with data collection and analysis
•Mechanical aptitude or skill with physically delicate and complex equipment
•Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:
•Experience with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
•Research experience in neuroscience or a related field

Salary Range: Step I - $36,984 [100% annual] or Step II - $39,444 [100% annual], commensurate with qualifications and experience.

As openings occur, appointments are made contingent upon availability of funding. The posting will remain open until May 6, 2016 to accommodate department needs. Short term, seasonal appointment based on the needs of the research project. Appointments may be made up to 100%.
