Position description

The Resource Center for Family Focused Practice, a program within UC Davis Extension’s Center for Human Services, serves the multidisciplinary human services needs of organizations with an emphasis on family-centered practice. The Resource Center provides research, custom and standardized training, technical support, symposia and support services with the goal of integrating practice approaches to improve outcomes for children and families. The Resource Center serves professionals in a wide variety of agencies and disciplines, including child welfare; juvenile probation; mental health; education; public health; developmental services; juvenile courts; group home providers; and prevention providers.

The Resource Center is primarily funded by interagency agreements with the California Department of Social Services--supplemented by additional grant funding from a variety of foundations--for a total operating budget of over $3 million annually. The Resource Center provided training to nearly 5,000 human services professionals throughout the state of California over the past year and delivers the largest single program of UCDE, a bi-annual conference for over 1100 participants from California, seven other states and Canada.

The position of Program Director is charged with overall management responsibility of program, operations and personnel for the Resource Center for Family-Focused Practice unit. The position provides leadership internally and externally and is the principal investigator for all work conducted by the Resource Center--providing important administrative review and oversight for this work. The position has the support of six direct reports (including two team supervisors and four subject matter experts) and a total of 14 team members. Calling on expertise in a broad array of issues confronting human services professionals and public agency officials, the position develops partnerships with a variety of clients to conduct professional needs assessments; create educational programs and training; conduct applied research; and provide other professional and organizational development services. The position is also responsible for developing and fostering strong and positive working relationships with partners and clients, including state and county social services program leaders, professional associations, instructors and campus faculty. The position reports to the Director of the Center for Human Services and supports the Director in achieving the goals of the Center through collaborative efforts with other unit managers—sharing resources and program opportunities and representing the Center as an integrated full service organization, both externally and internally. The position further contributes to the work of the Center through instructor recruitment and development, curriculum development, research, consultation, and training.
