Position description

The Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, at the University of California, Davis, School of Medicine, is seeking applicants for a full-time academic position as an Assistant/Associate Professor of Clinical Internal Medicine (Clinical X series). Appointees to this series are required to engage in teaching, scholarly activity/research, patient care, and University/public service. The successful candidate will focus on clinical care and research related to informatics and critical care, focused on patients with severe obstructive lung disease across the continuum of inpatient and outpatient care. The final candidate is expected to become a leader in the design, conduct, and analysis of a comprehensive clinical research program. Clinical patient care is required and will include supervision in both inpatient and outpatient settings of medical students, residents and fellows. The candidate is expected to lead efforts to develop clinical informatics infrastructure in support of the Division’s existing informatics-driven research and quality improvement efforts.

Candidates must possess an M.D. or D.O. degree and be board eligible/certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine, and/or Critical Care Medicine and be eligible for licensure in the State of California. Additionally, candidates must have completed training or demonstrate strong interest in advanced research in informatics and possess a track record of clinical care and clinical/procedural teaching of medical students, residents, and fellows in pulmonary and/or critical care medicine. A strong commitment to clinical outcomes research and the leadership ability to develop a team-based clinical research program with an emphasis in critical care (e.g. acute respiratory failure, mechanical ventilation-related outcomes, severe chronic respiratory disease) is required. Graduate-level training in clinical research methods, and practical research experience in patient-based clinical studies including clinical trial design and implementation is strongly preferred. Candidates must have the ability to work cooperatively and collegially within a diverse environment.
