Position description

The Graduate School of Management at the University of California, Davis, seeks temporary lecturers to teach one or more Organizational Behavior courses for academic year 2015-2016. Course curricula may include Teams and Technology, Negotiations or Strategy related electives. Descriptions are listed below.

Teams and Technology: This course teaches the theory and processes of group and team behavior so that you can successfully manage groups and work effectively in a variety of group settings. The first goal of the course is to provide conceptual guidelines for analyzing and diagnosing group dynamics and determining one's strategic options as a manager. The second goal is to understand how technological change affects team processes in organizations. Finally, this course will impart practical interpersonal skills for implementing effective strategies for group situations. The course is intended for students who seek greater understanding of teams and who wish to increase their competence in managing and working effectively in these contexts.

Negotiations: This course is designed to help students develop the ability to effectively negotiate in a competitive business environment. It focuses on negotiation skill-building in the areas of individual conflict management, team management, performance appraisal, corporate impression management and inter-organizational project management. The course will be taught largely through in-class simulations to provide an opportunity for experiential learning. The simulations will also allow students to develop a personal style of negotiation by discovering what works best for them in different situations.

Electives in Strategy: 1 or 3 unit courses that provide a detailed look at organizational strategy issues and contexts. Courses may include, but are not limited to the following topics: competitive strategy, technology and strategy, strategic management of human assets, managing strategic change, strategy implementation, international business strategy, and strategic planning. Courses should include both individual and group work, case studies, and written assignments.

Positions are contingent on funding and pending administrative approval and salary is based on ability and experience. Applicants should have a terminal degree. Potential candidates should submit their application online only. Please submit a vitae, evidence of teaching ability and contact information for three references. Please note that throughout the review, you may be asked to submit teaching evaluations or give a sample lecture to demonstrate your ability to teach. Applications are accepted on a continuous basis for future temporary openings, so the position will remain open until filled. Only completed files will be reviewed.

This position has no closing date and, as such, will remain open until filled. However, the Committee expects that an initial consideration of candidates' applications will be completed no later than February 28, 2015.

Unit 18 Lecturers are governed under a collective bargaining agreement (American Federation of Teachers (AFT) - Non-Senate Instructional Unit). Under this contract, once a lecturer accumulates enough quarters of service, the lecturer can be reviewed for a Continuing Lecturer position.
