Position description

The University of California, Davis Health System seeks a successful leader to serve as the Associate Director, Basic Sciences of the Comprehensive Cancer Center (UCDCCC). As the only comprehensive cancer center in the region, and one of only 41 centers to receive the NCI Comprehensive Cancer Center status, the UCDCCC is a leader in cancer research and biotechnologies used for the personalized treatment of patients and offers a broad spectrum of clinical specialties. The recruitment of the Associate Director for the UCDCCC is critical to its growth and expansion, and will have a lasting impact on the UC Davis Health System as a whole. The new Associate Director will be expected to have a preeminent record of research and scholarship, as well as the administrative capacity to lead the UCDCCC to new levels of excellence. In addition to the critical role s/he will play within the UCDCCC, the successful candidate will also contribute to the developing strength in the area of human genomics and will work closely with the UC Davis Genome Center, which integrates experimental and computational approaches to address key problems at the forefront of genomics, as well as the emerging Advanced Translational Genomics Center.
The successful Associate Director will build on the research strengths of the UCDCCC, and will continue to grow strong partnerships within the SOM and with the many other centers of strength in the biological sciences present on the campus. In particular, the Associate Director will be expected to:

• Continue the steep upward trajectory of success and impact in basic science research at the UCDCCC.
• Leverage the emergent genomics platform to the benefit of the UCDCCC.
• Recruit, retain, and mentor the next generation of cancer research faculty.
• Unite existing cancer researchers around a common vision for the UCDCCC.
• Further capitalize on the unique resources across the UC Davis campus and Health System.
• Develop additional external relationships.

The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D., MD/PhD, or equivalent, and have a balanced record in research and administration. S/he must meet the requirements for appointment as an associate or full professor in the Regular (Ladder-Rank) series at the University of California and have a research record commensurate with holding the Auburn Community Cancer Endowed Chair in Basic Science.
