Position description

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery is seeking a full-time candidate for an academic position as an Assistant or Associate Professor of Clinical Orthopaedic Trauma Surgery in either an (HSCP) clinician/educator or (Clinical X) clinician/researcher track. Clinical patient care is required and will include supervision and education in both inpatient and outpatient settings of medical students, residents and fellows. Individuals in the Clinical X series are expected to become leaders in the development, administration, accrual to, research aimed to improve the treatment and care of orthopedic trauma patients. Active participation in research, including clinical trials development, conduct, and accrual is required.

The successful candidate will join a strong clinical and translational academic program within a Level One Trauma Center in a region covering over 6 million people in 33 counties, spread over 65,000 miles.

Candidates must possess an M.D. degree, have successfully completed an ACGME certified orthopedic residency program and postgraduate specialty training in orthopedic trauma, be board eligible or board certified by the ABOS in orthopaedic surgery and, eligible for licensure in the state of California. Experience in and the ability to teach medical students, residents, and fellows is required. Experience performing all aspects of orthopaedic trauma surgery at an expert level is required, as well as caring for orthopaedic trauma patients. The ability to work cooperatively and collegially within a diverse environment is required. The ability and experience to conduct scholarly/clinical/translational research is required for Clinical X (clinician/researcher) track. Evidence of success in obtaining extramural funding and/or administering clinical trials is highly desirable.
