Position description

The Department of Ophthalmology & Vision Science is seeking a full-time tenure track faculty position at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level, with expertise and interests in optic nerve disease and treatment, with research interest in retinal ganglion cells and optic nerve disease, with an emphasis on translational outcomes. This individual will also be part of the Center for Vision Science at the UC Davis campus, which has more than 50 faculty in vision research and is supported by an NEI Training grant and an NEI Core Facilities grant. The candidate's research laboratory will be located in Tupper Hall, as part of a strong core of vision scientist.

The candidate must hold a PhD or MD/PhD degree, and should have a well-established research record with documented creativity, independence, and productivity. The successful candidate will be expected to (1) sustain a high quality, extramural-funded research program, (2)achieve excellence in teaching of medical and graduate students, (3) provide service to the University and academic community at a level commensurate with their career stage, and (4)contribute to the maintenance of a collegial and collaborative academic environment. The candidate will be responsible for devising a program of targeted translational science aimed at optic nerve diseases and their cure by employing existing disciplines and related vision science research underway at UC Davis in a collaborative effort.
