Position description

The Department of Animal Science in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at the University of California, Davis is recruiting an Assistant Professor of Applied Animal Behavior. This is an academic year (9-month) tenure track assistant professor position which includes the expectation that the appointee will conduct mission-oriented research and outreach of relevance to the California Agricultural Experiment Station.

The Department of Animal Science is seeking applicants who will establish a research program in applied animal behavior focused on investigating the effects of management practices on the welfare and health of food animals, and who will be expected to communicate with stakeholders about the relationship of animal welfare to competitive and sustainable animal agriculture. The appointee is expected to establish a competitively funded research program in applied animal behavior to address critical or emerging issues in animal agriculture or animal science. The appointee will be responsible for teaching undergraduate courses in animal ethics and animal welfare or other courses assigned to meet the teaching needs of departmental curricula. Mentoring of graduate students, undergraduate student advising, curricular development, participation in and development of outreach programs, and performance of departmental and university service is expected. The appointee is expected to conduct fundamental research, train students, and provide outreach that will ultimately support the economic viability of California’s animal industries.
