• The UC Davis Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is recruiting a professor in the clinician/educator series to become the Chief of Psychosomatic Service and the Alan Stoudemire Professor of Psychosomatic Medicine.

• Required background and qualifications
o Degree (M.D.)
o Clinical Care and experience providing psychiatric services in a general hospital setting
o Teaching experience with medical students, residents, and fellows
o Peer reviewed publications in the psychosomatic field
o Service on medical school committees, experience with leadership ability, and community outreach
o Ability to work cooperatively and collegially within a diverse environment and experience providing clinical services to diverse populations
o Leadership experience in running a clinical service, fellowship program
• Criteria specific to the position description
o Excellence in teaching of medical students, residents, and fellows
o Teaching funded by the department, at least 20%
o Clinical research is required; case reports, descriptive studies, clinical
o University service is required
o The applicant should have an extensive publication record in psychosomatic medicine and be viewed as a leader in this field.
o Experience in consultation psychiatry and in collaborative care
o Candidate is expected to establish a major program in collaborative care at UC Davis
o Knowledge and experience in implementing collaborative care models in medically underserved areas and in rural communities is desired
o Candidate would also be expected to develop collaborative care educational experiences for trainees in a variety of clinical settings
o Experience in providing clinical services to culturally diverse populations and to disadvantaged individuals is highly desired
o Knowledge and experience in working with primary care physicians in outpatient settings
o Experience providing consultation psychiatry services to patients in the emergency room or in the hospital is essential
o Candidate should have experience working with medical specialties such as transplant surgery, cancer and neurology
o Knowledge in the use of new techniques such as telemedicine and the electronic medical record highly desired
o The major goal of the professorship is to foster academic excellence and research in psychosomatic medicine and consultation
o Coordination and development of education in Psychosomatic Medicine as part of the Fellowship Program
