Position description
The Department of Surgical & Radiology Sciences at the University of California, Davis seeks to fill a full-time Junior Specialist position (1-2 available positions). The successful candidate/s will be actively engaged in research on comparative and translational oncology with special focus on the p53 family proteins under the supervision of the Principal Investigator (PI).
I. RESEARCH (90%)
Research Activity (85%)
This position requires creative contributions to and collaborative development on investigating the mechanism of tumor suppressor, p53 and its related family proteins, p63 and p73 in tumor suppression, by using human cell lines and mouse models. The candidate will help design and execute studies in consultation with the PI involving molecular biology, tissue culture, and dissection of animal specimens. They will assist in the collection and summarizing of data involving biochemical and histologic assays to characterize human cancer cell line and mouse tissues. General responsibilities in addition to performing experiments include: helping with ordering and restocking laboratory supplies, cleaning, maintenance of instruments, and record keeping.
Publication (5%)
The candidate will publish research results in peer-reviewed journals, books and other outlets in collaboration with the PI or other members of the research team.
II. Professional Competence and Activity (5%)
The candidate will participate in seminar series, professional societies and conferences appropriate to the candidate’s specific field. When appropriate, the candidate may coordinate and/or give presentations at seminars, laboratory meetings or educational functions.
III. University and Public Service 5%
The candidate may engage in public outreach activities that include presenting scientific research results to the general public and providing relevant advice to individuals and public agencies. Teaching classroom courses is not an expectation of this position.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates should have bachelor degree in biology or related area.
Knowledge of laboratory safety practices.
Basic computer skills such as Word and Excel.
Ability to work independently.
