UC DAVIS SCHOOL OF MEDICINE
DEPARTMENT OF PHARMACOLOGY

The University of California, Davis, School of Medicine, Department of Pharmacology invites applications for 1-2 full-time academic positions in the Assistant Project Scientist series.

We seek a highly motivated and skilled project scientist to help lead the analysis of synaptic transmission and its plasticity in the hippocampus and prefrontal cortex, either in acute brain slices or in vivo. The candidate will have at least 10 years of expertise with respect to electrophysiological characterization of synaptic transmission, including recording of EPSCs and fEPSP and Ca imaging. The successful candidate will be a member of our dynamic, interactive research team and will engage in scholarly discussions with colleagues on new ideas and concepts. The candidate will primarily work with acute forebrain slices, primary cell cultures, and animal models. He or she will perform skilled procedures, collect and analyze data, and prepare respective figures for scientific publications.

The duties and responsibilities of this position include: designing and executing experiments to study the functional effects of various binding partners of Cav1.2; collect, analyze and summarize data for scientific manuscripts; assist in training students and others.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

• PhD in Biomedical Sciences, Physiology or related field.
• At least 10 years of relevant research experience (i.e., characterization of synaptic transmission using electrophysiological and Ca imaging techniques, as supported by recent publications).
• Expertise in designing and planning of research projects.
• Experience in writing research papers and grant applications.
• Skill in analyzing and evaluating data.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work both independently and as a team player.
