Position description
The Department of Internal Medicine at the University of California, Davis School of Medicine is recruiting for one full-time position in the Clinical X Professor Series at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. Faculty in the Clinical X series are expected to engage in professional competence and activity, teaching, research and creative work, and University/public service. The position will be primarily dedicated to developing a translational research program in inflammatory digestive diseases. The candidate will be expected to develop an independently funded research program. Resources include a CTSA-funded Clinical and Translational Sciences Center which provides bioinformatics and biostatistical support including access to over 12 million patient records in UC-Rex; and a GI Clinical Trials Unit to support investigator-initiated and industry-sponsored clinical trials. Generous resources and time for research will be provided.
Clinical responsibilities will be limited but include providing outpatient consultations and endoscopic procedures with 1-2 weeks/year covering the inpatient GI consultation service. Educational responsibilities will include supervision of consultations and procedures by fellows, residents, and medical students as well as providing lectures to various audiences.
This recruitment is conducted at the assistant/associate rank. The resulting hire will be at the assistant/associate rank, regardless of the proposed appointee's qualifications.

UC Davis Health serves a 65,000-square-mile area that includes 33 counties and 6 million residents across Northern and Central California. The UC Davis Medical Center is a 600-plus bed hospital with further expansion ongoing including an innovation hub known as Aggie Square and the 14-story California Tower addition to the UC Davis Medical Center. The GI Division currently includes 19 faculty who provide services at 5 clinics and 4 ambulatory endoscopy units. Clinical research within the division is supported by the GI Clinical Trial Unit which includes 8 research coordinators and staff supporting over 50 studies. The division has a long-standing history of providing outstanding patient care and medical education focused on the training of GI Fellows.
Qualifications
- Candidate is required to have a track-record of translational research in inflammatory digestive diseases and NIH funding.
- Clinical training and experience in general gastroenterology as well as in the treatment of IBD is required.
- A demonstrated record of excellence in research is required.
- Candidates must possess an M.D. degree,
- Candidates must have the ability to work cooperatively and collegially within a diverse environment.
- Be Board Certified or Board Eligible in Gastroenterology
- Have completed a three-year Gastroenterology fellowship training program.
- Must be qualified for licensure within the State of California.
