The University of California, Davis Children's Hospital is launching a national search for a Basic or Translational Pulmonary Physician Scientist to join the Division of Neonatology, Pulmonary, or Critical Care Medicine in the Department of Pediatrics. UC Davis has an extraordinarily rich community of lung investigators that span many Schools and Colleges and have diverse research interests, including in the fields of asthma, childhood COPD, environmental toxicology, pulmonary hypertension, airway epithelial cell signaling, lung cancer, drug development, lung imaging, and innate immunity. Collaborations are fostered through the activities of affiliated centers such as the UC Davis Clinical Translational Sciences Center, California National Primate Research Center, the Center for Comparative Medicine, the Center for Molecular and Genomic Imaging, the Cellular and Molecular Imaging Core, the West Coast Metabolomics Center, and the UC Davis Mouse Biology Program. These outstanding resources will enable the successful candidate to enhance her/his research program in lung biology as well as establish new programs within the Department and across the UC Davis campus.
This is a unique opportunity for an accomplished researcher to contribute and lead the Department of Pediatrics to new levels of excellence in research and teaching in the University of California Medical Center system and the University of California campus system in general. The Physician Scientist will be instrumental in broadening and strengthening the research objectives of the Department. The Divisions and Department seek candidates with a track-record of excellence in pulmonary or cardiopulmonary research and a demonstrated ability to establish and sustain extramurally funded research programs. The successful candidate will be able to effectively interface with physician scientists, lead collaborations within the UC Davis lung research community, and ultimately build new translational research programs. The ability to foster collegiality and collaboration in an academic environment is essential and required.
The successful candidate will be an established scientist, and must have an M.D. or D.O. Furthermore, the candidate must have a distinguished record of leadership, teaching, research, and publications. Successful candidates must meet requirements for appointment as associate or full professor in the Regular series (Tenure Track) at the University of California, Davis. This position is eligible for an endowed professorship, the Pediatric Pulmonary Science & Medicine Endowed Chair ($2.4 million).
Responsibilities of the endowed chair will be to support the Department of Pediatrics' mission of promoting wellness through patient care, education, leadership, service and research on pediatric respiratory diseases.

With more than 120 physicians in 33 pediatric subspecialties, the Children's Hospital is a 118-bed hospital housed within the 619-bed University of California, Davis Medical Center. It is the only designated Children's Hospital in the Sacramento region, and is known for offering comprehensive, compassionate, high-quality subspecialty care. UC Davis Children's Hospital is distinguished for its outstanding fetal surgery program, its congenital heart program, and its internationally recognized telemedicine programs. UC Davis Children's Hospital has a 49- bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and a 24-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit/Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit.
Centered in the heart of Sacramento, California, within the UC Davis Health campus, the UC Davis Children’s Hospital serves a population of over 1 million children based in Northern California, as well as the Central Valley and Western Nevada regions. • Be able to develop and implement a strategic vision for Pulmonary research in the Department of Pediatrics
• Conduct research to strengthen the academic impact of the Division of Neonatology, Pulmonary medicine, or critical care.
• Work collaboratively to enhance the quality and excellence of the Department of Pediatrics
• Help to develop resources necessary to build a world-class pediatric pulmonary research program
• An ability to work effectively with faculty, administration, trainees, and medical, nursing, and technical staff
