Position description

The Department of Art and Art History at the University of California, Davis, invites applications for a lecturer position in Art Studio to teach ART 149: Theory & Criticism in Contemporary Art during Spring 2023. Service dates: March 30 – June 15, 2023.

A lecturer teaches an 80-minute lecture class twice a week and holds regular office hours.

This class introduces students to the ideas and language surrounding the theoretical nature of contemporary art for both undergraduate and graduate students in order to advance their critical understanding in the visual arts through global artistic issues, both current and historical.

Applicants may be artists and/or scholars with professional practices, current engagement and expertise in the field of Art Theory and Criticism. Qualifications include an MFA or equivalent, college/university teaching experience beyond the TA level, and prior experience teaching this subject. Candidates with diverse viewpoints, backgrounds and experiences are encouraged to apply.

This is a non-tenured, temporary position: the appointments to the title of Lecturer are self-terminating (no further notice on non-reappointment will be forthcoming) and do not create an obligation on the part of the University either to extend or renew the appointment outlined above. Any reappointment will be preceded by an assessment.

Proof of citizenship or eligibility for US employment required prior to employment (Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986).

This position is subject to UC policy and is covered by a collective bargaining unit.
