Position description

The Department of Plant Sciences offers temporary Lecturer positions in the Plant Sciences. A list of courses that may be available during academic year 2021-2022 is provided below. Included are area of degree and experience required to effectively teach these courses. Courses may be added or omitted from this list as the year progresses.

APPOINTMENT DATES: Assignments vary according to type of course and percentage of appointment. Service periods are:
Fall Quarter 2022: September 19, 2022 – December 09, 2022
Winter Quarter 2023: January 06, 2023 – March 24, 2023
Spring Quarter 2023: March 30, 2023 – June 15, 2023

RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach one or more undergraduate or graduate courses in PLS, BIT, EHF, IAD, and/or HRT or others as needed . Candidates may be asked to teach 1 to 2 courses for the year depending on programmatic need and candidate’s availability.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
Appropriate professional degree, e.g. doctorate or master’s degree (or 30 units of graduate coursework) at time of appointment.
Preferred:
Demonstrated teaching ability; a developing record of scholarly or professional achievement in an area of expertise related to the subject area of the course.

GENERAL INFORMATION: Temporary lecturers are selected to fill specialized positions which require professional as well as academic expertise. Temporary lecturers may be selected to fill teaching needs occasioned by leave of regular faculty or to enhance and compliment the strengths of faculty teaching related courses. Therefore, in any given year, open positions and requirements for individuals to fill them will vary.

SALARY: Commensurate with experience and course load.

COURSE AVAILABILITY: The following courses may be available for the 2022-2023 academic year pending availability of funding. Areas of degree and experience noted. Other courses will be added as needed.

Ex. Fall 2022: PLS 120: Applied Statistics in Agricultural Science
Additional courses in PLS as needed.

Applicants may also submit reprints or other examples of their scholarly or professional attainments, and teaching evaluations.
