DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHIATRY AND BEHAVIORAL SCIENCES

The University of California, Davis, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is recruiting for one (1) Health Sciences Assistant/Associate Clinical Professor to serve as a teaching attending physician in the Sacramento County Mental Health Treatment Center (MHTC). The MHTC attending physician position is ideal for physicians passionate about working with underserved, culturally-diverse adults experiencing severe mental illness. Attending psychiatrists at MHTC work with multidisciplinary teams including mental health clinicians, discharge planners, program coordinators, nurses and pharmacists. MHTC attending psychiatrists also supervise PGY 2 residents and third-year medical students and conduct clinical teaching in a rich learning environment. Weeknight call is covered by residents, with MHTC attendings available by phone for supervision. Weekends and holidays at MHTC are covered by moonlighters.

The UC Davis Faculty physicians who work at MHTC are a collaborative and energetic group of colleagues committed to high-quality clinical care and excellence in medical education. The MHTC Medical Director further supports the MHTC faculty through regular supervision meetings and career mentorship. As members of an academic department, MHTC attending psychiatrists enjoy opportunities to develop scholarly or creative projects related to their clinical work, teaching and other professional activities.

Requirements for this position at time of employment include an MD or DO, California Medical License, DEA license, and either ABPN board-certification or board-eligibility in general psychiatry. Prior experience working in acute psychiatric inpatient units is preferred. Teaching and supervisory experience of psychiatry residents and medical students is preferred. Applicants in their final year of residency training are eligible for consideration. This recruitment is conducted at the Assistant/Associate rank in the health sciences clinical professor series, and the resulting hires will be at the Assistant/Associate rank in this series regardless of the proposed appointee's qualifications.

The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences has approximately 65 residents in six residency training programs and 90 faculty and staff psychiatrists and psychologists at the UC Davis Medical Center and the Northern California VA Health System. The Department provides a stimulating teaching and academic environment. http://www.ucdmc.ucdavis.edu/psychiatry/. The Department is located in the culturally vibrant and affordable city of Sacramento, the Capitol of California. Napa Valley, San Francisco, Lake Tahoe and Yosemite National Park are all within a two-to-three hour drive from Sacramento.
