Position Description
Temporary positions are anticipated for instructors to teach courses in areas such as human sexuality; infancy and early childhood; middle childhood and adolescence; adulthood and aging; research methods; health & well-being, and children and families.

A list of the courses that may be available during 2022-2023 academic year is included. It is possible that courses may be added to or deleted from this list as the year progresses.

Appointment Dates
Several appointments are made each year. The number of courses assigned for each appointment may vary depending on type of course and percentage of appointment. Service dates are:
Fall Quarter 2022: September 19 - December 9
Winter Quarter 2023: January 6 – March 24
Spring Quarter 2023: March 30 – June 15

Reappointment is possible upon demonstrated competence and based on established criteria.

Duties and Responsibilities
Teach one or more lecture courses in the human development major. Teaching may also involve special observational projects or guest speakers.

General Information
The Department of Human Ecology, Unit of Human Development and Family Studies, University of California, Davis, offers an undergraduate major leading to the Bachelor of Science degree and two undergraduate minor programs: Human Development and Adult Development and Aging. The major includes more than 830 undergraduate students of all levels (freshman through senior).
Temporary lecturers are selected to fill specialized positions which require their professional and academic expertise and to fill teaching needs occasioned by sabbatical leaves or leaves of absence of regular faculty as well as teaching needs which simply cannot be met by the current number of regular faculty. In any given year, open positions and requirements for individuals to fill them will vary.
The Davis campus, third oldest in the ten-campus University of California system, offers a full range of undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs. The city of Davis is a progressive university town of 65,622 located in the Sacramento Valley, 72 miles northeast of San Francisco and 15 miles west of Sacramento, California’s capital.

Salary and Appointment Level
Commensurate with experience and course assignment.

Criteria for appointment will be evidence of teaching excellence (or, for first time, relatively inexperienced candidates, the potential for excellence) in terms of (a) rigorous and intellectually challenging course content, and (b) the ability to present that material effectively, i.e., stimulating interest in and critical thought regarding the subject matter.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

• Appropriate professional degree, minimum requirement is Masters at time of appointment in in psychology, human development, or equivalent discipline

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)

• Evidence of teaching excellence or potential for excellence; and
• A developing record of scholarly or professional achievement in an area of expertise related to a subject area described in this announcement.

Preferred qualifications

• Ph.D. is preferred, e.g., in psychology, human development, or equivalent discipline
