Academic Cardiothoracic Surgeon

The Department of Surgery at the University of California, Davis; School of Medicine seeks to recruit a full-time academic Cardiothoracic Surgeon. The academic title will be at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor rank within the Health Sciences Clinical Professor, or Clinical X series. Salary and level of appointment will be based upon experience and qualifications.

Successful candidates will be appointed at the Assistant or Associate, or Full Professor rank in the Health Sciences Clinical Professor or Clinical X series depending on experience and qualifications. Expectations of a Clinical X series is to engage in teaching, research, service and clinical work and appointees of the Health Sciences Clinical Professor series is to engage in clinical work, teaching and to support the department's research mission.

UC Davis Cardiac Surgery is expanding its current program. The surgeon selected for this position will engage in the teaching and practice of a broad spectrum of adult cardiac surgical procedures including complex coronary artery surgery, Valvular surgery, and end-stage heart disease (VADs). Specific training and experience with complex aortic surgery, heart transplant, catheter-based surgery, and minimally invasive surgery would also be desirable. The ideal candidate will have vision and willingness to grow a program of excellence. Senior-level candidates, with leadership experience, may be considered for a program director position based on their background and experience.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Basic Qualifications:
• The candidate must have an M.D. degree
• Completion of cardiothoracic surgery residency and fellowship program
• Current ABTS certification and eligibility in cardiothoracic surgery
• All candidates must have the ability to work cooperatively and collegially within a diverse environment

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)

• Possess a current California Medical License by start date
• Apply for California Fluoroscopy Operator’s Permit within the first year of appointment
