Position description

The Office of Research is conducting a search for Director of the Center for Information Technology Research in the Interest of Society (CITRIS).

CITRIS is a four-campus institute comprising the Berkeley, Davis, Merced and Santa Cruz campuses of the University of California. More than 100 faculty members in engineering, science, social science, and other disciplines at the four UC campuses are collaborating with researchers at more than 20 supporting companies to create pervasive, secure, energy-efficient, and disaster-proof information technology solutions for many of our most pressing social, environmental, and health care problems. UCD CITRIS includes faculty members in a variety of fields involved in projects that benefit society in transportation, seismic safety, education, health care and the environment.

This position, open to tenured Academic Senate appointment at the Full Professor level, will be appointed for 5 years. An administrative stipend and one course
buyout per year will also be included with this appointment. Reporting to the Vice Chancellor of Research and the CITRIS Director, the UC Davis CITRIS Director will provide academic and administrative leadership. He/she will facilitate faculty involvement that is collaborative and multi-disciplinary across the Davis campus and across the multi-campus institute, foster development of the research, education and industry participation programs that maximize opportunities for technological innovation and societal and economic impact. Success will be measured by societal impact, research funds raised, faculty and students supported, engagement with industry and government and stakeholder satisfaction.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

o Tenured Academic Senate appointment at the Full Professor level at UC Davis in an area of relevance to CITRIS operations.
o Distinguished track record of scholarly publication and teaching.
o Understanding of political, policy and protocol trends and issues relating to information technology and it’s impact on society
o Leadership, management or administrative track record, ideally with prior experience within a university environment.
o Experience developing and maintaining collaborative working relationships among stakeholders and partners across campus, in university, industry, government and the non-profit sector.
o Excellent verbal and written communication, presentation and public speaking skills to work with others in a collegial atmosphere and represent UC Davis in public forums.
