Position description

A post-doctoral position is available in the laboratories of Gail Taylor and Grey Monroe to work on the genetics and genomics of Cannabis sativa, developing pre-breeding resources and in understanding links between phenotype and genotype. It has been suggested that the global cannabis market may be valued annually at over $300 billion in coming years, as many US states and global nations de-regulate the use of this plant-based chemical for pharmaceutical and recreational use. In collaboration with our commercial partners, we are quantifying the diversity of THC, CBD and terpene signatures across a wide range of cannabis plant material as a prerequisite for developing bespoke plant material for further discovery alongside pre-breeding material. You will be responsible for initiating new research to develop gene editing in Cannabis sativa using CRISPR-cas9 and similar approaches and skills in plant bioinformatics, molecular biology, plant functional genomics and an understanding of plant secondary metabolism are required.

Qualifications
A PhD is required. Applicants should have training and experience in plant bioinformatics and quantitative genetics, plant molecular biology, plant biochemistry and metabolomics will be considered. Ability to deal with quantitative data, to undertake phenotyping and genotyping, with bioinformatics skills and database management is preferred. The successful candidate should be happy to work both independently and to interact with the commercial partner in Castroville. The successful candidate will be highly motivated and productive. Applicants with a proven record of publications in peer-reviewed journals and strong verbal and written skills are preferred.

Salary is based on years of experience as a postdoctoral scientists but will be a minimum of $54,540. The successful candidate will be eligible for full benefits. For information about benefits and working as a post doctoral scientist at UC Davis, please see https://grad.ucdavis.edu/postdoctoral.
