Position description

The Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of California, Davis invites applications for a temporary instructor to teach ECH 158C "Plant Design Project." This is a 4 unit course taught in Spring with an anticipated enrollment of 30 - 40 students. This course is taught in separate sections each with a distinct instructor and design project. Collaboration between instructors is an elemental part of the teaching effort. The course involves design, including the impact of multiple realistic constraints, costing and profitability analysis of complete chemical plants using computer-aided design techniques.The duties will include (but are not limited to) teaching a course including: lecturing, holding office hours, grading and administering exams and coursework, managing and mentoring graders and teaching assistants, course preparation, holding discussion or lab sections and additional duties as needed.
Candidates must have a Masters degree or higher in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry, experience in teaching undergraduate plant design, be expert users of Aspen, and have relevant chemical plant industrial experience and plant process safety. The candidate will lead undergraduate student design projects and develop new plant design problems. Salary and appointment level commensurate with experience. Actual salary is based on percentage of appointment. Normally a 4 unit course equals a 33% appointment and employment for Spring quarter runs April through June. This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement. Please be aware that due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, campus in-person operations have been restricted to essential personnel only. All academic and scholarly activities are being conducted remotely for the time being. As a result, interviews, seminars, and additional consultations may occur via remote platforms, including Zoom, to which we will provide access.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Applicants must minimally have a Masters or higher in chemical engineering or chemistry.

Experience teaching Senior Design course.
