Position description

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at UC Davis Health seeks individuals to fill the Doris Ellison Linn Chair in Bone Biology to support musculoskeletal research. The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery is experiencing an exciting and transformative period of academic and clinical growth. The Doris Ellison Linn Chair will play an integral role in emboldening innovation and education in musculoskeletal health, with particular attention to molecular biology. This position will hold an administrative title as the Director of Research Laboratories. We seek candidates with an established track record of excellence, leadership, and mentorship in research at an academic institution and a demonstrated ability to establish extramurally funded research programs as evidenced by prior and current significant funding from national agencies. A robust record of trans-disciplinary collaboration is essential. Strong preference will be given to candidates with an internationally recognized track record in molecular biology, epigenetics, tumor microenvironment, oncology and/or biochemistry.

The ability to work cooperatively and collegially within a diverse community is also required to leverage our outstanding partnerships within UC Davis Health, our NCI-Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Colleges of Engineering, Biological Sciences, School of Veterinary Medicine, and Shriners Hospital for Children. Additionally, the holder of this position will have the following responsibilities assigned:
• Engage in independent and collaborative research in musculoskeletal innovation that complement our existing expertise in oncology, osteoarthritis, tissue engineering, biomechanics and pharmacology. All areas of research will be considered, but preference will be given to those with a strong background in molecular biology and conducting research in musculoskeletal oncology, tumor microenvironment, and demonstrated experience with tools for genetic modification to explore pathways of disease and innovative targets as therapeutics.
• Provide mentorship to faculty and trainees to support their careers and training.
• Support the educational activities of the undergraduate, graduate, and residency programs in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery.
• Engage in teaching, service, and scholarly activities to advance the mission of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery.
• Provide service and leadership in the musculoskeletal research arena and be fully engaged in activities in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, as well as relevant professional societies.

The successful candidate will be expected to interface with physicians and scientists, participate in collaborations within the UC Davis research community, and apply their research expertise to a range of research areas to facilitate the development of new collaborative projects. We are recruiting for a Regular Ladder Rank (tenure track, full‐time FTE) at the Associate Professor or Professor rank, commensurate with the level of experience and qualifications of the applicant.

Candidates must possess a terminal degree (M.D., M.D./Ph.D., Ph.D). Evidence of success in obtaining federally funded grants and/or contracts is required, with a particular emphasis on NIH funding.
