Position description

The UC Davis School of Medicine, Department of Radiology is currently seeking qualified candidates for a Cardiothoracic Imaging Division Chief preferably in the Professor of Clinical "X" Series or Health Sciences Clinical Professor Series, at Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor rank (commensurate with experience and credentials). Expertise in all aspects of cardiovascular and thoracic imaging is essential for this position. Appointment of this leadership position is contingent upon a successful nomination.

Criteria for the Professor of Clinical "X" Series: The incumbent will be expected to conduct substantial research; provide patient care; teach fellows, residents, and medical students; and perform public and University service. Excellent teaching is essential criteria for appointment in this series.

Criteria for the Health Sciences Clinical Professor Series: The incumbent will be expected to teach fellows, residents, and medical students; provide patient care; contribute to scholarly activities; and provide public and University service.

Clinical responsibilities of this position include interpretation of chest radiographs, cardiothoracic CT and MR, and chest vascular CTA and MRA. The candidate will be expected to participate in multidisciplinary meetings with cardio-pulmonary medicine, infectious disease, and pediatric cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery. Participation in week night and weekend calls in rotation with other cardiothoracic division members is expected. The department has state–of- the- art equipment including clinical 3T and 1.5T MRI scanners. The cardiothoracic division at UCD may provide cross-divisional interventional service.

A qualified candidate will be nominated for the administrative role as the Division Chief of Cardiothoracic Imaging. To be given consideration for this administrative role, a candidate must demonstrate experience in clinical operations and a strong interest in mentorship, research and teaching is required. The successful candidate will be a leader in the field with a reputation in academic leadership and clinical excellence. The applicant will report directly to the Chair of Radiology and will be a member of the departmental leadership team. The division chief will participate in departmental strategic planning and operations. Within the cardiothoracic division, the Chief will oversee the day-to-day clinical operations of the division, mentor faculty, promote research, coordinate educational programs and work collaboratively with other faculty and division chiefs.

The candidate will be expected to provide leadership, management and motivation to the division and make decisions in an inclusive, collaborative environment. They will foster professional and academic excellence in division faculty, including actively seeking and implementing methods to improve performance and morale and providing support and guidance for academic advancement, faculty development and research endeavors. The candidate will set annual division goals to achieve and provide a strategic plan for staffing, clinical growth and achievement of academic missions: education, teaching and research. Directing specialty training programs for medical students, residents, and fellows and actively participate in educational planning and governance is expected. Additionally, they will create policies and establish clinical workflows and protocols to improve patient care and satisfaction and maintain division responsibilities and guidelines.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

    M.D. or D.O. degree.
    Cardiothoracic Imaging Fellow training at least 5 years of academic experience/research
    Board certified in Diagnostic Radiology
    CA Medical License or eligible for licensure in the state of California

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)

    Expertise in all aspects of cardiovascular and thoracic imaging is essential.
    Have a documented interest in research and teaching with an excellent track record in scholarly activities.
    To be nominated for the administrative role as Division Chief of Cardiothoracic Imaging, experience in clinical operations and a strong interest in mentorship, research and teaching is required.
