Position description

The University of California, Davis, Department of Neurological Surgery seeks a board eligible/certified Neurocritical Care specialist for a full-time faculty position at the UC Davis School of Medicine, in Sacramento, CA.

This position is at the Assistant/Associate level in the Health Sciences Clinical Professor series, Clinical X series or In-Residence; with joint appointments in Neurological Surgery and Neurology. The level of appointment will be commensurate with credentials.

Located in Sacramento, the University of California Davis Medical Center is the only academic hospital in inland Northern California, serving a catchment area that exceeds 6.5 million people. The hospital includes a Level 1 Adult Trauma Center, a Children’s Hospital recognized as an American College of Surgeons level One Trauma Center and Verified Children’s Surgery Center. Sacramento is centrally located near the San Francisco Bay Area, the Napa Valley region, and Lake Tahoe. The region has an ideal Mediterranean climate and is one of the top sunniest cities in the U.S. As the capitol of California, it has one of the most diverse populations in the nation.

The faculty member will join a multidisciplinary care team of neurosurgeons, neurologists, neurointerventionalists and pulmonologists in caring for acutely ill neurological surgery and neurology patients in the neuroscience ICU. S/he will also be a key member of the Neurological Surgery team and participate in the assessment and treatment of Neurological Surgery patients.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

    Must possess an MD, MD/PhD, or equivalent degree. Completion of an ACGME approved residency program in Neurological Surgery or Neurology. Completion of an approved fellowship in UCNS or CAST Neurocritical Care on or before the start of the appointment. Board certified or board eligible in neurocritical care on or before the start of the appointment. A valid California medical license or eligibility for licensure in the State of California is required. Experience conducting clinical and/or basic science research. Possess the ability to work cooperatively and collegially within a diverse environment that fosters team science and multidisciplinary patient care.

Preferred qualifications

    A track record of productive scientific investigation evident in peer-reviewed publications and successful competition for extramural support of laboratory/translational/clinical research is preferred.
    Experience in the management of moderate to severe traumatic brain injuries.
