Position description

The Department of Animal Science offers a temporary Lecturer position in APPLIED STATISTICS In Agricultural Science, PLS120. The appointee will be responsible for teaching the lab sessions in PLS120.

This course is designed to provide an introduction to the application of statistical methods to the design and analysis of research trials in the plant, animal behavioral, food nutritional and consumer sciences. Basic concepts and statistical methods are presented in lectures, whereas the laboratories emphasize data processing techniques, problem solving and interpretation in specialized fields. The specific objectives of the course are: 1) To give a practical understanding of the purpose and basis for statistical methods; 2) To teach the basic tools for statistical thinking, including posing and testing hypotheses; 3) To help students to become savvy consumers of statistical information; 4) To prepare students for further learning on their own or by taking more advanced courses.

APPOINTMENT DATE: Service periods are: Fall Quarter: September 20 to December 17, 2021

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teach 2 lab sessions of one 4-unit undergraduate course in Applied Statistics (PLS120). Responsibilities will include preparing and delivering laboratory lectures, training and supervising teaching assistants to conduct laboratory activities, developing student assessments including laboratory assignments.

GENERAL INFORMATION:
Temporary lecturers are selected to fill specialized positions that require professional as well as academic expertise.

SALARY: Commensurate with experience.

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Appropriate professional degree, e.g., doctorate or master’s degree (or 30 units of graduate coursework); demonstrated teaching ability; a developing record of scholarly or professional achievement in an area of expertise related to the subject area of the course.
