Position description

The Project Scientist will lead a team effort in order to first implement the WEHY-HCM (Watershed Environmental Hydrology – Hydroclimate Model) over various Northern California watersheds by means of its calibration and validation over these watersheds. Accordingly, she/he shall lead and manage the effort for developing the necessary land, atmospheric and hydrologic databases for the WEHY-HCM by the ArcGIS geographic information system. Then she/he shall lead and manage the effort to calibrate and validate the WEHY-HCM over the target Northern California watersheds by means of the developed databases. Once calibrated and validated, the WEHY-HCM will then be utilized for the simulation of coupled hydrologic-atmospheric processes over the target watersheds. This effort will again be led and managed by the hired Project Scientist. The WEHY-HCM is written in the FORTRAN language and operates within the LINUX/UNIX environment.

The Project Scientist will also be required to lead documentation efforts and will be responsible for developing appropriate reporting materials to funders, and authoring peer-reviewed publications based on this research.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

    • Minimum professional degree requirement is a PhD in Civil Engineering with specialization in Water Resources Engineering, or equivalent degree

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)

    • Demonstrated capability and experience (in terms of published papers) on numerical modeling of watershed hydrologic processes by the coupled atmospheric - hydrologic modeling system WEHY-HCM (Watershed Environmental Hydrology - Hydroclimate Model)
    • Capability to handle large volumes of digital data
    • Proficiency in Linux/Unix system
    • Proficiency in programming languages such as Fortran, Python, and Bash
    • Experience in the calibration of hydrologic models
    • Capability and experience in using Geographical Information System (GIS)
    • Ability to successfully work in a team environment
    • A record of scholarly or professional achievement in hydrologic engineering.
