Position description

Dr. Emilio Ferrer with the Department of Psychology at the University of California, Davis seek to fill a 1-year, full-time position as an Assistant Project Scientist starting in the fall of 2021. The successful candidate will work on research projects in the laboratory focused on the development of statistical models for analyzing intensive longitudinal data from dyads.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

I. RESEARCH
Research activity
The selected candidate will work on a project to develop statistical models for longitudinal data and multivariate time series. Primary responsibilities include conducting statistical and methodological research, writing papers, and participating in grant writing. In addition, the candidate will contribute to the lab environment by being present in the lab, attending and presenting at lab meetings and brown bags, and informally mentoring graduate and undergraduate students.

Publication
The candidate will publish research results in peer-reviewed journals, books and other outlets in collaboration with the Pl or other members of the research team.

Grant Acquisition
The candidate will collaborate with the Pl in designing and writing proposals for funding from agencies such as NIH and NSF. This role also includes preparation of progress reports for funding agencies.

II. PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCE AND ACTIVITY
The candidate will participate in professional societies and conferences relevant to statistics and quantitative methodology and will serve as a reviewer of research proposals and scientific publications as appropriate. The candidate will attend conferences and seminars to present research results and may give oral presentations to public and professional interest groups.

Ill. UNIVERSITY AND PUBLIC SERVICE
The candidate may engage in public outreach activities that include presenting scientific research results to the general public and providing relevant advice to individuals and public agencies when the opportunities arise. The candidate will engage in University service activities such as guest lecturing and training/advising undergraduate volunteers on research projects in the PI’s laboratory. Teaching classroom courses is not an expectation of this position.

Position qualifications include:

Required:

• Graduate degree in statistics or related field
• Advanced skills in dynamical systems modeling, time series analyses, and computational modeling
• Advanced skills integrating computational models with behavioral data
• Advanced skills with programming environments including R, Python, and Matlab
• Proof of skill set through peer-reviewed publications
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Experience creating scientific illustrations for publications
