Academic Surgeon

The Department of Surgery at the University of California, Davis; School of Medicine seeks to recruit a full-time academic position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Clinical X, In- Residence, or Health Science Clinical Professor series. The successful candidate will join the Division of Foregut, Metabolic, and General Surgery and is expected to have a diverse general surgical practice with a strong focus in minimally invasive surgery.

The selected candidate will be expected to participate in teaching; clinical care, both inpatient and outpatient; research activities; and university service. Expectations of a Clinical X series is to engage in teaching, research, service, and clinical work, while expectations of faculty in the HSCP series are primarily clinical and include teaching, service and scholarly and/or creative activities. Appointees the In-Residence series are required to participate in teaching, research, University/public service, and patient care.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

    • Must have an M.D. degree
    • Completed an ACGME accredited and approved Minimally Invasive Surgery
    fellowship
    • Be board certified/eligible in general surgery
    • Ability to work cooperatively and collegially within a diverse environment
    • Must acquire a CA Medical License before the start date

Preferred qualifications

    • Prior experience or interest in developing an independent research program
    • Innovative surgical skills
    • Demonstrated experience with minimally invasive surgery
    • Strong interest in clinical education
