Position description

The Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology at the University of California, Davis invites applications for one Junior Specialist in molecular, cell and developmental biology.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Research (90%): The candidate will oversee general laboratory management and manage the Hydra colony. General laboratory maintenance includes ordering supplying and maintaining lab stocks and databases. The candidate will create transgenic and genetically modified lines of Hydra by microinjection. Under supervision, perform laboratory experiments and assist in various research projects when appropriate. The candidate will summarize data, prepare figures, and assist in writing manuscripts for publication and grant proposals, as well as present research in regular group meetings when appropriate.
University and Public Service (10%): The Junior Specialist will participate in training activities, such as mentoring undergraduate students. They will actively contribute to lab activities via meetings and unit/campus presentations.

SALARY RANGE: Step I - $44,500 [100% annual] or Step II - $47,400 [100% annual]), commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

• Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology or a related field
• Have strong interpersonal, communication, and decision-making skills as well as the ability to work well independently and as part of a team

Preferred qualifications (other preferred, but not required, qualifications for the position)

• Experience with molecular biology techniques, e.g. PCR, restriction digests, ligations, and DNA preps
• Organizational skills to keep notebooks and digital records of experimental results
• Knowledge of lab safety and hazardous chemical safety requirements
