Position description

The Department of Art and Art History at the University of California, Davis, invites applications for a lecturer position in Art Studio to teach ART 149: Theory & Criticism in Contemporary Art. Service dates: Winter 1/3-3/18 2022. A lecturer teaches an 80-minute lecture class twice a week and holds regular office hours.

This class introduces students to the ideas and language surrounding the conceptual nature of contemporary art for both undergraduate and graduate students in order to advance their professional understanding in the visual arts through global artistic issues, both current and historical. Applicants may be artists and/or scholars with professional practices and expertise in the field. Qualifications include an MFA and college/university level teaching experience beyond the TA level.

This is a non-tenured, temporary position: the appointments to the title of Lecturer are self-terminating (no further notice on non-reappointment will be forthcoming) and do not create an obligation on the part of the University either to extend or renew the appointment outlined above. Any reappointment will be preceded by an assessment.

We are also conducting searches in Printmaking, Drawing and Painting, Photography, Ceramics, Sculpture, Video and will consider offering positions across disciplines if qualified. Please indicate your interest if you would like to be considered for courses in these areas.

Proof of citizenship or eligibility for US employment required prior to employment (Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986).

This position is subject to UC policy and is covered by a collective bargaining unit.
