The University of California, Davis, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is recruiting for an Assistant / Associate Project Scientist in Self-Regulation and Development.

This position will require the applicant to contribute to research on self-regulation, including regulation of emotions, cognition, and behavior in typically developing individuals, as well as those with externalizing disorders, such as attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), at a variety of life stages, including child, adolescent, and young adulthood. The candidate will also be expected to contribute research on how to test and develop strategies to improve regulation of emotion and behavior. The candidate will participate in studies using physiological measures (e.g., EKG – heart rate variability), behavioral coding systems and clinical measures to assess the status and changes in self-regulation under experimental conditions and with development. The optimal candidate will be involved in translational research projects, applying theories of development and methods to clinical research to understanding trajectories of ADHD and psychopathology. The candidate will contribute to the execution of ongoing studies, as well as assist in securing future funding, including preparing competitive grant applications. The candidate will be expected to publish manuscripts in related areas and present scientific data at conferences. She or he will take a leadership role in the training and oversight of volunteers, research staff and trainees.

Basic Qualifications:
Qualified candidates must possess a Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology, have been awarded the Ph.D. within the past 10 years, and have a minimum of 3 years of experience beyond the Ph.D. and a strong track record of peer-reviewed publications. The successful applicant will have a background in collecting and analyzing heart rate variability (HRV) and related EKG methods, and advanced statistical training, including analysis of longitudinal data. Experience in working with data from externalizing disorders, such as attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and is required. Candidates must have proficiency in conducting, designing, analyzing, and interpreting HRV and behavioral coding data. Research experience with testing strategies to modify self-regulation is also required. Expertise in designing developmental studies is required. The successful applicant will also be experienced in providing training for research staff in these areas.

This recruitment is conducted at the Assistant or Associate rank. The selected candidate will be hired at the Assistant or Associate rank, regardless of the proposed appointee's qualifications.
