These positions require creative contributions and collaborative development of active research programs investigating topics relevant to the research areas of next generation sequencing (NGS)-based RNA sequencing, whole genomic sequencing (WGS), single-cell proteomics for interrogation of fibrotic diseases, cancer therapeutics, and immune checkpoint therapy. This research will involve hands-on experimental work as well as computational biology and bioinformatics.

Basic Qualifications: A Master's degree and/or a Bachelor’s plus 1‐3 years of relevant post‐baccalaureate experience in genetics, molecular biology, and/or biotechnology. Theoretical and hands-on experience with chromatin immunoprecipitation–DNA sequencing, promoter functional analysis, protein-protein interaction experiments, fluorescence labeling/staining and confocal microscopy, and skills working with (NGS)-based RNA sequencing, single-cell proteomics, and bioinformatics. Ability to keep up with organization and coordination necessary for conducting an on-going research project. A strong leadership and ability to lead and mentor student researchers. Some statistical knowledge and experience using a statistical program such as SAS or R.

Preferred Qualifications: Interest and experience working with omics studies in cancer research. Extensive experience (3+ years) in genetic engineering, library preparation, sequencing data analysis, profiling tumor infiltrating immune cells with CIBERSORT and xCell. Ability to assist in preparation of detailed and accurate scientific reports.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, design and conduct series of experiments to develop and optimize the strategies for high quality NGS sequencing and single-cell proteomics (e.g. CyTOF and Cytobank). The candidate will focus on developing and using novel sequencing approaches to determine immune profiling and molecular signatures in pulmonary renal diseases. She/He will actively interact with various investigators to fulfill the needs for different projects. She/He should be able to teach and guide junior and senior team players and work in a team-based research environment, lead projects, and work directly with MD and PhD trainees. The Assistant Specialist will have the opportunity to publish manuscripts, and present the results in lab meetings and/or scientific conferences. The ideal candidate has strong interpersonal skills, has formal training conducting omics studies, a strong research background with published papers as evidence, and the ability to work well independently and as part of a team.

Qualified applicants should upload a letter of interest, statement of research, contact information for three references and their curriculum vitae (which should include community/public service and professional competence/activities) online at https://recruit.ucdavis.edu/JPF04072
