The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in the College of Engineering at the University of California, Davis invites applications from qualified candidates for one Project Scientist position in the Next Generation Networking and Computing Systems Laboratory.
Minimum Qualifications: Candidates should have a PhD in electrical and computer engineering or a closely related field, and at least one year of research experience beyond Ph.D. in the related field mentioned in the silicon photonics or III-V photonics.
Project Scientists work under the direction of a faculty principal investigator. The Project Scientist is evaluated for merit and promotion based on evidence of contribution to the research program, authorship in peer-reviewed publications and conference papers, active dissemination of information and other evidence of expertise. The Project Scientist will maintain professional competence and perform university and public service.
This position requires creative contributions to and collaborative participation in an active research program investigating topics relevant to the research areas of Silicon Photonics, III-V Photonics, Heterogeneous Integration, and Hybrid integration. This position specializes in research and development of new photonic devices based on silicon, III-V, silica, and other materials leading to heterogeneous and hybrid integration in 2D and 3D towards functional microsystems on chip. The emphasis will be on integration of a large number of photonic and electronic components including lasers, modulators, detectors, multiplexers, demultiplexers, optical amplifiers, logic gates, arrayed waveguide gratings, transimpedance amplifiers, and electronic drivers. The candidates is expected to work in a team environment taking part in one or more of design, fabrication, 2D/3D integration, testing, and application demonstrations. Demonstrated skills in one or more aspects of design, fabrication, and testing of photonic components are required. Optionally, this position may include preparation of grant proposals from different government and private sponsors in preferred.
