The University of California, Davis Department of Radiology is seeking a full-time Diagnostic Medical Physicist at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank in the In Residence or ClinX series (commensurate with experience and qualifications). [Criteria for the Professor of Clinical "X" Series: The incumbent will be expected to conduct substantial research; provide patient care; teach fellows, residents, and medical students; and perform public and University service. The successful candidate will formulate strategies for assuring state and federal regulatory compliance, s/he will be responsible for Joint Commission compliance, and oversee all diagnostic medical physics processes at UC Davis Health (UCDH), including but not limited to CT, interventional radiology, cardiology, mammography, ultrasound, radiography, fluoroscopy, ancillary imaging devices, and MRI as a back up to the existing MRI program. Experience with nuclear medicine imaging devices is a plus. This individual will provide expert guidance relating to compliance with industry and internal safety policies and procedures, State and Federal regulations, Joint Commission and CMS requirements, and will be responsible for the ACR accreditation process. The candidate will coordinate with the Diagnostic Medical Physics (DMP) group in Radiology to maintain the clinical Quality Assurance (QA) program for all diagnostic and research imaging systems at UCDH. Additionally, the candidate will review and advise all Departments with respect to UCDH policies for their safe and effective use of diagnostic imaging equipment.
The candidate will have the role as Co-Chair of the Radiology Quality Assurance Committee and will provide technical/leadership support to assess patient issues including radiation dosimetry, perform investigations, and provide corrective actions to be taken. The ideal candidate will possess a track record of bringing cutting-edge imaging methods (including protocol development/implementation, acquisition optimization, and image processing) into clinical practice and will also have interest and expertise in Radiology Informatics.
Education duties include in-service training for Radiology Residents, technologists, and others on the elements of diagnostic imaging physics. The candidate will participate in professional and healthcare conferences pertinent to UC Davis Health and in particular the advancement of the Radiology Physics practice.
The successful candidate will be an academic scholar and will hold an academic faculty position in the Department of Radiology. The candidate will formulate and undertake research projects in diagnostic imaging leading to scientific publications. Collaboration and participation in scholarly activities and research is expected. Extramural funding is highly encouraged and a track record in this area is a strong advantage. The demonstrated ability to network within the national research community in medical physics and radiology is highly desired.

• Ph.D. in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Imaging Science or related field
• ABR certification in Diagnostic Medical Physics or board eligible
• 1-3 years of experience providing clinical diagnostic imaging physics and safety services
• Demonstrated success in obtaining federal grant funding as Principal Investigator
• Experience in obtaining patents
• Evidence of collaborative scholarly activity demonstrated by grant funding as co-investigator
• Experience of multi-disciplinary science across a wide range of clinical disciplines
• Evidence of creative activities and interest in radiology informatics, image processing, artificial intelligence and cutting-edge technologies
• Experience in translating new diagnostic imaging methods into clinical practice
• Experience in mentoring
• Possess the ability to work in a diverse environment
• Demonstrated independent research career
• Evidence of scholarly activity demonstrated by publications in high-quality peer-reviewed scientific journals
• Experience in academic teaching at the graduate level
• Experience with academic/industry partnerships
