Position description

The Middle East/South Asia Studies Program (ME/SA) seeks an instructor for a part-time lecturer position in Punjabi during the Winter and Spring quarters of the 2020/21 Academic Year.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities include instruction of Elementary Punjabi in a fully online format. Introduction to the Gurmukhi alphabet, Punjabi phonetics and listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in Punjabi, and Punjabi culture. Grammar topics include sentence construction, verb conjugation, verb and noun agreement, and postpositions and oblique cases. Language of instruction is Punjabi.

The virtual online Punjabi course will require 15 hours of study per work (4 hours per week of synchronous classes and 11 hours of asynchronous learning activities). The instructor will teach students for two hours per week in two master ZOOM classes and interact with students during weekly office hours.

The lecturer will receive guidance from online Punjabi curriculum experts. Assignment of class times are scheduled by the Associate Director of the Middle East/South Asia Studies (ME/SA) Program.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicant must have demonstrated teaching experience and a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Punjabi language studies, including the facility to work with the Gurmukhi script. Online teaching experience is highly desirable.

APPOINTMENT DATES:

The position is available for the following quarters:
Winter Quarter 2021: January 4 - March 19
Spring Quarter 2021: March 25 - June 10
