Description

UC Davis Health School of Medicine Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, an academic/clinical department, encompassing several sub-specialties, working to achieve excellence in patient care, teaching, research and public service. The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery invites applications from qualified candidates for a Junior Specialist position (1.0 FTE) in orthopaedic research. This research position will assist with ongoing studies involving cell culture of mammalian somatic, stem and progenitor, and cancer cells.

The duties of this position are designated to the criteria outlined below:

Research (90%):
The incumbent will be involved in the handling and maintenance of small animals such as mice or rats that are necessary as model systems of the studies. The incumbent will perform routine cell culture, biochemical assays, image-based characterization of cell behavior, literature reviews, and must provide regular written updates of progress as agreed upon between the candidate and investigators. The incumbent will contribute to scholarly manuscripts by reviewing and commenting on draft manuscripts, literature searches, data collection and scoring, and helping to write methods or other sections. The incumbent will review and conduct peer-reviewed literature searches relevant to scientific activities in the lab. The incumbent will serve as a research coordinator for ongoing studies conducted by PIs in the department, as resources permit. The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring uninterrupted communication between individual laboratories, data management and preparation of reports tailored to meet the needs of the requesting individual(s).

Professional Competence and Activity (5%):
The incumbent may participate in appropriate professional/technical societies or groups and other educational and research organizations. The incumbent is expected to review research proposals, journal manuscripts, and publications related to area of expertise.

University and Public Service (5%):
The incumbent will maintain liaison and respond to the needs of various industry organizations, state and federal agencies, and other external groups on issues related to area of expertise. The incumbent will participate in activities of committees within the department, college, campus and other University entities, as appropriate.

Candidates should have a Bachelor's Degree in a field that meet the needs of the department or equivalent research experience.
