The Department of Pediatrics at the University of California, Davis School of Medicine is launching a national search for a full-time academic faculty member, who will also service as the Division Chief, in the Regular Ladder Rank, In-Residence, Regular Ladder Rank/In-Residence split, Clinical Pediatrics, or Health Sciences series. Faculty in the Regular Ladder Rank tenure-track and In-Residence series are expected to engage in teaching, independent research and creative work, professional competence and activity, and University/public service. Faculty in the Clinical Pediatrics series are expected to engage in teaching, professional competence and activity, research and creative work, and University/public service. Faculty in the Health Sciences series are expected to engage in teaching, professional competence and activity, scholarly and creative activity, and University/public service.

This position is open to Associate/Full Professor level candidates, commensurate with credentials. The ideal candidate will have research, leadership, and administrative experience. The division consists of 11 neonatologists, 8 neonatal nurse practitioners, 1 adjunct researcher, and 7 fellows in neonatal-perinatal medicine. The division chief will build upon advances of the past decade including ranking among the top programs in US News and World Report for the past 6 years, development of a network of referring hospitals including oversight of two level 2 community NICUs, a significant increase in the average daily census, and collaborations with our growing fetal care and treatment, pediatric surgery, pediatric neurology, pediatric cardiac surgery and neonatal telemedicine programs.

Candidates will be expected to participate in clinical care, teaching of medical students, residents and fellows, scholarly and/or research activities in the Department of Pediatrics, quality improvement and patient safety initiatives in the NICU, and serve on hospital, departmental, and School of Medicine committees.

With more than 120 physicians in 33 pediatric subspecialties, the UC Davis Children's Hospital is a 129-bed hospital housed within the 619-bed University of California, Davis Medical Center. It is the only designated Children's Hospital in the Sacramento region, and is known for offering comprehensive, compassionate, family-centered care. The Children’s Hospital has a Level IV 49-bed Neonatal Unit with an ACGME accredited fellowship program in Neonatal/Perinatal Medicine. The Children’s Hospital provides a full complement of pediatric sub-specialty care including pediatric and cardiovascular surgery, as well as ECLS and interventional cardiology. UC Davis Children's Hospital an American College of Surgeons (ACS) Children’s Surgery Verified Center. The UC Davis Clinical and Translational Science Center (CTSC), funded by the NIH since 2006 and located on the Sacramento campus, provides support for translational and clinical research through integrated CTSC programs and national initiatives.

The central UC Davis campus, located in Davis, provides an impressive breadth of basic and translational scientists with many collaborative opportunities including Organized Research Units (e.g., Comprehensive Cancer Center, Center for Healthcare Policy and Research, California National Primate Research Center), and the Office of Research Core Facilities Program (e.g., DNA Technologies and Expression Analysis Cores, Flow Cytometry Shared Resource, Mouse Biology Program). Research with animal models is a major strength at UC Davis, with a robust animal care program including zebrafish to nonhuman primates. The UC Davis program includes a Large Animal Surgical Center for new surgical models (pigs, sheep) including neonatal resuscitation and ventilation studies. There are also many opportunities for clinical research, including outcomes research, telemedicine, simulation, neonatal abstinence syndrome, neonatal microbiome research, investigational new drugs, among others. The NICU participates in the California Perinatal Quality Control Collaborative and Vermont Oxford Network. Basic and translational research laboratory space is available on both the Sacramento and Davis campuses. UC Davis provides an exceptionally rich environment for collaborative research and team science which is fostered and strongly encouraged. The Office of Research has a range of resources to assist with strategic partnerships, including invention protection and licensing.

Candidates must have the following experience/qualifications:
• M.D. or D.O.
• Successful completion of an approved pediatric residency training program
• Successful completion of an approved Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine Fellowship
• Board certification in Neonatal/Perinatal Medicine
• Eligibility for a California Medical License
• Ability to foster collegiality and work collaboratively in a diverse environment
• Demonstrated ability to establish and sustain extramurally funded research programs
• Experience mentoring junior faculty and fellows in scholarly activities and research
