Within UC Davis, the Division of Continuing and Professional Education (CPE) is a $40M self-supporting academic division reporting to the Provost. The CPE team includes 200 academic and professional staff who collectively register 70,000 enrollments from all 50 states and more than 100 countries each year. As the lifelong learning arm of the campus, CPE has one of the university’s most extensive educational portfolios, offering academic and non-credit professional certificates, on-campus programs for international students, contract programs for government and corporate clients, conferences and boot camps in a wide array of topical areas. CPE plays a critical role in advancing the university’s outreach mission in service of non- traditional adult learners, and serves as an innovation hub to pioneer new models that may be scaled across the campus.

The Program Coordinator is an academic appointee based in our Center for Professional Studies, with responsibility for exploring, envisioning and developing a start-up portfolio in the Life Sciences. The Program Coordinator will conduct outreach among biotech industry employers and employer groups in the private sector and community colleges in the public sector to determine and validate emerging workforce needs in the life sciences. He/she will leverage this community input to develop curricular growth plans in strategic areas to address new market needs. The Program Coordinator will also be responsible for exploring and pursuing funding mechanisms for program initiatives. The Life Sciences initiative is targeted as a proof-of-concept project to forge a workforce development and community engagement model for Aggie Square, and will be jointly funded by CPE and the campus. As such, the Program Coordinator will work with the Dean to establish a public-private partnership model for a life sciences training collaborative in support of regional economic development, and also contribute to the development of a vision and strategic plan for the Lifelong Learning Center at Aggie Square. This position is designed to be temporary and inform new program opportunities. Should the portfolio advance, a permanent director will be hired.

Minimum Qualifications: (must be attained at time of application)
Academic doctorate in the life sciences
Minimum 10 years of experience in program and curricular development and implementation relevant to science education and training.
Minimum 5 years of experience in proposal preparation and grant writing.

Additional Qualifications:
Minimum 5 years in strategic planning and outcomes assessment.
Demonstrated experience in collaborative projects and partnership building across campus and externally.
Experience in conducting outreach and engagement in the life sciences community.
Non-academic professional work experience in a relevant field (e.g. industry, government, non-profit).

This is an 100% academic position with a 1-year term appointment. A reappointment may be made one time for a maximum total appointment term of two years. Salary commensurate with level and experience. UC Davis Continuing and Professional Education is unable to sponsor a work visa (H-1B) to fill this position. Successful candidate must be able to demonstrate that they are legally authorized to work in the United States.
