The University of California, Davis, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is recruiting for an Assistant / Associate Project Scientist in Autism Diagnosis position at the Assistant level.
The Project Scientist makes significant and creative contributions to a research or creative project in his/her academic discipline. The appointee possesses the subject matter expertise and the creative energy necessary to function at a high level of competence. The appointee will participate in activities to increase, improve, or upgrade competency. Appointees with Project (e.g., Scientist) titles may engage in University and public service. They do not have teaching responsibilities. Although the Project Scientist is expected to work independently under the general guidance of an academic member with an independent research program (i.e., Professor, Professional Researcher, Specialist in Cooperative Extension, etc), he/she is not required to develop an independent research program or reputation. He/she will carry out research or creative programs with supervision by an individual in an academic title that carries with it automatic Principal Investigator status. The Project Scientist does not usually serve as a Principal Investigator but may do so by exception.
This position will require the applicant to contribute to research on early identification of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and other neurodevelopmental disorders. The candidate will contribute to the execution of ongoing studies, as well as assist in securing future funding, including preparing competitive grant applications. The candidate will be expected to publish manuscripts in related areas and present scientific data at conferences. He or she will take a leadership role in the training and oversight of volunteers and research staff.
Basic Qualifications: Qualified candidates must possess a Ph.D. in Developmental or Clinical Psychology, have been awarded the Ph.D. within the past 10 years, and have a minimum of 5 years of experience beyond the Ph.D. The successful applicant will have a background in eye tracking methods and statistical analysis of longitudinal data. Candidates must have proficiency in conducting, designing, analyzing and interpreting eye tracking and behavioral coding data. Research experience with children with ASD is required. Expertise in developmental and psychological assessment of infants, children, and adolescents is required. Training in diagnostic tools for evaluation of ASD and child psychopathology is required. The successful applicant will also be experienced in providing training for research staff in these areas.
This recruitment is conducted at the Assistant or Associate rank. The selected candidate will be hired at the Assistant or Associate rank, regardless of the proposed appointee's qualifications.
