The Department of Neurology at the University of California, Davis, invites applicants for a Junior Specialist position. The Junior Specialist will be involved in interdisciplinary studies focusing on questions in the neurosciences at the M.I.N.D. Institute.

The position will be supported by NIH/NINDS funded grants University of California grants assisting in subject recruitment from the University of California Medical Center as part of our Stroke Genomics studies. The successful candidate will be exposed to a variety of neurological disorders including patients with stroke, TIA, seizures, migraine, neurocognitive disorders as well as patients with vascular disease (heart attack, peripheral vascular disease) and will work closely with study neurologists and research investigators.

General responsibilities include assisting the Project Investigator(s) to coordinate necessary documentation to prepare clinical study proposals; screen and enroll patients who are potential study candidates in sponsored clinical trials; assist with implementation and management of clinical trials including admission into protocol and ongoing patient management and data collection; maintain all regulatory documents and correspondence; monitor the progress of participants by maintaining records of medications, doses, serum levels, side effects, etc.; and maintain case report forms.

The successful candidate will engage in research and professional competence activities with the Project Investigator(s) such as peer-reviewed publications, grant proposals, research reports and talk/poster presentations. The candidate will participate in all lab meetings, discussing ongoing and future projects with clinical and research faculty and staff. The candidate will be expected to complete a phlebotomy training/certification upon hire if not already certified. The candidate will attend discussions with collaborators such as weekly journal clubs, Neurology Grand Rounds, stroke conferences and other relevant presentations. In addition, the candidate will be expected to provide University and public service by assisting in the mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students on lab operations.

The candidate is expected to contribute to the dynamic academic environment at the MIND Institute.

Basic Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in the arts or sciences. Strong interpersonal, communication and decision-making skills. The ability to work well independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications:
Candidates who seek advanced degrees in the neurosciences or related fields. Experience in phlebotomy.

Appointments are made contingent upon availability of funding. The term of this appointment is short term, based on the needs of the research projects. The appointment will be 100% time.
