Position description

Job Description:
The Department of Human Ecology at the University of California, Davis (UCD), has an opening for a postdoctoral research scholar who will work under the leadership of Dr. Leigh Ann Simmons in the HEAL Lab (https://heallab.ucdavis.edu/). The HEAL Lab focuses on three main areas of research: (1) characterizing risk phenotypes for specific health disparities populations (e.g., rural, racial/ethnic minorities, low socioeconomic status); (2) understanding the impact of early life exposures (e.g., prenatal, family, and community environments) on later life chronic disease risk; and (3) developing and testing health behavior change interventions to disseminate into clinical practice.

The successful candidate will work 50% time on an NIH-funded clinical trial examining an mHealth dietary intervention for pregnant and postpartum women. The remaining 50% effort will include collaborative research examining technology acceptance, digital health behavior change interventions, and translational studies aimed at identifying biological markers of health status and response to interventions. All projects emphasize racial/ethnic, geographic, and income inequalities and social determinants of health.

Job Responsibilities include:
Traveling to research sites in the Greater Sacramento area for recruitment and data collection; participating in research team meetings; conducting statistical analyses; preparing manuscripts independently and in collaboration with Dr. Simmons and other members of the HEAL Lab for publication in peer-reviewed journals; preparing grant proposals in conjunction with Dr. Simmons and other collaborators to secure funding for further research; giving scientific presentations; mentoring graduate and undergraduate students; and developing a novel, independent line of investigation from the lab’s ongoing research. The position is funded for 2 years with the possibility for a 1-year renewal.

Qualifications:
Candidates should have a PhD, SciD, or equivalent in public health, nursing science, human development, psychology, or related field. Research experience in health disparities, social determinants of health, and implementation of mobile health projects is desirable. Methodologic expertise in longitudinal data analysis, psychometric methods, or structural equation modeling is also desirable. Excellent written and oral communications skills, a desire to learn new material, and willingness to work in a collaborative team environment are necessary.

TO APPLY:
Applicants should submit the following materials: a cover letter (which includes a brief summary of research experience and interests), a CV (with publication list), and names and contact information of three references (letters of references will be requested for finalists). Review of applications will begin February 15, 2020 but applications will continue being considered until the position is filled. Applicants are also encouraged to submit a brief Statement of Contributions to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
