Position description

In partnership with the Office of Research, the Dean’s Office of the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences is conducting a search for Director of the Institute for Global Nutrition, an Office of Research Special Research Program, formerly known as the Program in International and Community Nutrition (PICN). This position, open to tenured members of the UC Davis Academic Senate at the advanced Associate or Full Professor level, will be appointed for 3 years at 33% time. An administrative stipend and course release will also be included with this appointment.

General Description
Reporting to the Vice Chancellor for Research, the Director of the Institute for Global Nutrition will provide academic and administrative leadership to integrate nutrition-related research across the UC Davis campus. The Director will work with campus faculty and with international, federal, state, and regional agencies and nonprofit organizations to develop a cross-disciplinary research agenda that addresses key challenges related to nutrition and food security. This position will also advise the Provost, Vice Chancellor for Research and the deans on resource allocations for campus-wide programs centered on nutrition and food security.

The mission of the Institute for Global Nutrition is to provide the scientific, policy, and programmatic advancements necessary for addressing the major nutrition issues facing California, the nation and the world. To achieve this mission, the Institute coordinates the campus’s expansive nutrition-related expertise across a wide spectrum of units and topics. The goal is to foster food systems that improve both the supply and demand for safe and nutritious food, and to tackle the combination of micronutrient malnutrition and overweight/obesity that affects populations throughout the world including the U.S.

Qualifications

  • Tenured Academic Senate appointment at the advanced Associate or Full Professor level at UC Davis.
  • Distinguished track record of scholarly publication and teaching in nutrition science.
  • Understanding of nutrition-related political, policy, and funding trends and issues.
  • Leadership, management or administrative track record, preferably with prior experience in developing or overseeing multi-faceted, interdisciplinary research enterprises within a university environment.
  • Experience developing and maintaining collaborative working relationships among stakeholders and partners including campus faculty, industry, government, and the non-profit sector.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, presentation, and public speaking skills to work with others in a collegial atmosphere and represent UC Davis in public forums.
  • Experience in grant writing/proposal development and the acquisition of extramural funding.
