Description

The Classics Program at the University of California, Davis invites applicants for a tenure-track faculty position, beginning July 1, 2020. Rank is assistant professor and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and expertise. Research specialization is open, and we are particularly interested in candidates whose research and teaching extend the boundaries of the field as traditionally conceived, for example by engaging with the reception of Classics in non-European contexts or with cultural encounters beyond the Mediterranean world. The field of research should complement the existing strengths of the program’s faculty. Applicants must demonstrate exceptional promise as scholars and teachers. They should have a strong research plan, a clear commitment to undergraduate education, and the ability to participate actively in the running of a small department. We particularly welcome candidates with demonstrated interest in improving access to the field of Classics for marginalized students. The successful candidate will be able to teach Greek and Latin at the undergraduate level and will take on special responsibility for a large undergraduate etymology course. Teaching load is four courses per year, on the quarter system. Ph.D. in Classics or a related field must be in hand before the first day of classes, September 28, 2020.
