Position description

The Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology at the University of California, Davis invites applications for one full-time Assistant Project Scientist position in the molecular and cellular biology and biochemistry.

Position Description:
The position will focus on identifying genes that regulate centrosome size in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. This position requires a strong budding yeast background to successfully execute this project. The candidate will design and assist with experiments using molecular biology, microscopy, genetics, and biochemistry techniques. The candidate will then summarize data and assist with preparation of figures and writing of manuscripts for publication. The ideal candidate is a highly motivated, responsible individual with strong interpersonal, communication, and time management skills.

Basic Qualifications:
PhD degree in biochemistry, cell biology, or a related field. Must have experience with budding yeast and be comfortable with general cloning, basic biochemistry, yeast/bacteria transformations, and fluorescence microscopy. Must be able to keep a complete and detailed laboratory notebook of experimental procedures and data to archive, label and document data for publication, proposals and presentations.

Salary Range:
Step I-VI $57,400-$74,200 [100% annual], commensurate with qualifications and experience

Position Available/Closing Date:
The position will remain open until September 26, 2019 to accommodate department needs.

Term of appointment:
One year appointment- Appointments may be made up to 100%.
