The Department of Neurology at the University of California, Davis is recruiting a clinician scientist with interest in basic mechanisms of cerebrovascular brain injury to join the Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center. The position is available at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. This is a full-time faculty position in the In-Residence series.
The candidate of choice will join the internationally recognized research environment of the UC Davis Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center as well as associated neuroscience programs such as the Imaging of Dementia and Aging (IDeA) laboratory, the Center for Mind and Brain, the Medical Investigation of Neurodevelopmental Disorders (MIND) institute and the Center for Neuroscience. The UC Davis Alzheimer's Disease Research Center is one of only 30 research centers currently designated by the National Institutes of Health's National Institute on Aging. The UC Davis Alzheimer’s Disease Center has a vast research portfolio and has been continuously funded for over 28 years.

The In-Residence title at the University of California is an institutionally underwritten Academic Senate title assigned to academically qualified individuals who engage in research, teaching, patient care, and University and public service.
This faculty position requires a primary interest in the basic mechanisms of cerebrovascular brain injury to study vascular cognitive impairment. Successful candidates will have a strong background in academic medicine, including demonstrated excellence in clinical service and research.
• Direct patient care in an outpatient setting within the Alzheimer’s Disease Center.
• Maintain a vigorous and independent research program with translational aspects to diverse populations
• Participate and lead research teams and conduct collaborative scientific research.
• Teaching responsibilities consistent with the responsibilities of the In-Residence series.
• Provide University and public service consistent with the responsibilities of the In-Residence series.
The position emphasizes leadership potential within the Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center for the future. For exceptional candidates assuming leadership responsibilities, it is possible to assume the Victor and Genevieve Orsi Chair in Alzheimer’s Research. Competitive laboratory space, start-up funding, and initial salary support are available.
• Candidates must possess an MD or MD/PhD and have experience in basic vascular research and cognitive neurology as it relates to vascular cognitive impairment.
• Candidates must be board certified in Neurology by the ABPN on or before their start date and have the ability to obtain a California medical license.
• Candidates are expected to have an independent research program with evidence of success in obtaining extramural funding.
• A record of publication in peer-reviewed journals is required.
• Candidates must have demonstrated excellence in teaching and demonstrated ability to build research teams and conduct collaborative science.
• The ability to work cooperatively and collegially within a diverse environment is required.
• Fellowships or experience with vascular disease or cognitive neurology with a vascular emphasis are encouraged.
This recruitment is conducted at the Assistant/Associate Professor rank. The resulting hire will be at the Assistant/Associate rank, regardless of the proposed appointee's qualifications.
