Position description

The Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing is seeking master’s degree or doctorally prepared nurse practitioners and physician assistants to join the faculty as clinician educators and serve in a unique role providing both clinical care and clinical teaching activities.

Full-time positions at the assistant and associate rank in the Health Sciences Clinical Professor (HSCP) Series are available at UC Davis Health, which is located on a modern, 140-acre campus in Sacramento, California. The Sacramento campus is home to the School of Nursing, School of Medicine, UC Davis Medical Center (including a level-I trauma center and burn unit, and a full range of outpatient services), a fully accredited children’s hospital, and a NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center. Practice locations include UC Davis Health Medical Center, UC Davis department and primary care network clinics, Sacramento County clinics, local FQHCs and other clinical sites.

CRITERIA:
A candidate for appointment in the HSCP Series shall be evaluated by the following criteria, which shall be appropriately weighted according to the primary emphasis on clinical and clinically-relevant teaching and patient care services and also according to the needs of the school and the individual’s responsibilities in the specific discipline. The four criteria are:

  1. Teaching
  2. Professional competence and activity
  3. Scholarly or creative activity
  4. University and public service

QUALIFICATIONS:
A Master’s degree or Doctoral degree (e.g. DNP, PhD) is required. The candidate must meet the following qualifications, depending on profession:

  1. Graduate of a nationally accredited nurse practitioner program with active NP certification, or graduate of a nationally accredited physician assistant program with active PA certification.
  2. Licensed or eligible for licensure in the State of California as applicable.
  3. Possess D.E.A. certification or be eligible for certification as applicable.
  4. Possess B.C.L.S. (C.P.R.) certification.
  5. Eligible for allied health professional credentialing.

Successful candidates will provide clinical services in a local community setting approximately 80 percent of the time. The clinical placements may be at UC Davis Health or in an external community setting. This role includes direct patient care and precepting graduate nurse practitioner and physician assistant students from the School of Nursing. The incumbent mentors two students at a time in the clinical setting. This includes overseeing procedures, providing feedback, and assisting with training. The remaining approximately 20 percent of time, the candidate serves as a member of the School of Nursing faculty. In this role, the incumbent teaches students in small groups, participates in clinical skills workshops, and provides mentoring and professional guidance to students. These clinician educators will also be involved in scholarly activity and committee service commensurate with this position.
